We inspire young people
By visiting schools and getting in front of teenagers, Youth Unlimited has a unique advantage over normal lessons and assemblies. The talk may be about mountaineering, but the links relevant to everyday life are clear. It’s all about the qualities to succeed. The Seven Summits is the perfect vehicle to incorporate the importance of goal setting, ambition, determination, perseverance and ultimately, dealing with success. It’s about teamwork, leadership, overcoming difficulties, staying focused and working with difficult people.
Best of all, the audience listens because the story is delivered from the same peer group. It’s not old teachers speaking, but young and energetic with plenty of gore, like frozen snot, frozen eyeballs and frostbite photos. This means the students don’t just switch off, but get involved, often even putting on some climbing gear much to their friends amusement.
The long term aim of Youth Unlimited is to inspire young people, who will then go on to excel in their field, and in turn inspire other young people to do the same, so a chain reaction of positive peer pressure begins.
